About CaM

Cam is a 19 year old freshman who will be attending the Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minnesota. Cam maintained a 3.5 grade point average, when attending the Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood, MN.   He was "Student of the Quarter," "Athlete of the week," and Part of " Minnesota High School Wrestling League 100 Win Club." Cam competed at the High Wrestling State Championship level; winning third place in the 140 pound weight bracket for 2010!  Cam works part-time for a local sponsor, Kar Kraft of Glenwood, MN.

Cam started racing go-karts at six years old, winning "Rookie of the Year" his first season. He continued with his winning ways, gathering a total of 14 Go-Kart Track Championships (both asphalt and dirt ovals). Cam "The Kid" Schafer started to compete in the INEX Legend Racing Series at age 12, winning the "Race of Champions" at the Intercomp Legend Dirt National event held in Lawrenceburg, IN. Cam was the youngest to win this race against the "Best of the Best" Legend series drivers throughout the US.

The "Kid" continued to run asphalt and dirt ovals with the Legend race car, winning the McLean County Track Championship in 2005 (age 14). He won the 2006 INEX "Young Lions/Semi-Pro" Dirt National Points Championship along with the Intercomp Race Team of the Year Award. Cam repeated his previous performance, winning another national title for 2007 in the INEX "Pro" Dirt Series. In 2007, Cam won the Tri-County Track Championship, the Dacotah Speedway Track Championship and was chosen for the "Driver of the Year" award. Cam won 23 feature races in a row with the Legend race car and drove an IMCA Modified Race Car to a "Rookie of the Year" award in 2007.

2008 was another busy race season as Cam and his Dad, Dave, jumped at an opportunity and moved to Indiana (for the race season) where Cam ran USAC 410 Race cars for BCI Racing. Cam loved the speed (800 plus horse power) and excitement of the USAC Sprint Car Dirt Oval Racing Series and has returned to this for 2009 summer. Cam ran his own USAC 410 DRC Chassis Sprint Car throughout much of Indiana and Illinois.  Plus he ran an asphalt INEX Thunder Roadser in Indiana & Kentucky.

2009 was a big learning curve. With the family owned sprint car alot of things had to be experienced, as all aspects of the sprint car were managed by Cam and his Dad, Dave. At the start of the year, my Dad and I were truly scratching our heads at the end of the night to try and get this beast to stick. With the help of shop neighbor Mr. Mike McGhee, the second half of the year took off. With the wingless car we were starting to keep up with the best. With the last couple weeks to go in Indiana, we took the chance to put a wing on the car, which was truly "Sweeeet". Next year I am going to take what I have learned and put it to the test.

2010 is starting out with Cam running awesome in the winged sprint car.  He is amazing on the dirt ovals with the sprint car.  Cam is running his 410 NOSA sprint car in Grand Forks, ND at the River Cities Speedway on a limited schedule.  He will also run for two weeks in Indiana; competing in the USAC sprint racing series.  Cam and his crew chief, Dave Schafer (his Dad) will head to Indiana on July 1, 2010 for some exciting "wingless" sprint car racing!

At the end of July, Cam has orientation at the Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN.  For the month of August, Cam will continue to run the NOSA series in North Dakota & MN.

Cam Schafer!
